Header Area

The Header Area is where your Site name and site description (or alternatively, your logo) are displayed, along with a Header Right Widget Area. Let’s look at how to set everything up.

What makes up the Header Area?

Two things:

  1. The Site TItle & Tagline
  2. The Header Right Widget Area (populated in the Utility Pro demo with the Search widget)

How to set your Site Title & Tagline

From your WordPress admin:

  1. Click on the Settings > General menu
  2. Edit your Site Title as desired
  3. Edit your Site Tagline as desired

Can I Use an Image Logo?

Short story: Yes.

Utility Pro does not utilize a custom header, which means there’s no upload tool for a logo. By default the theme uses Dynamic Text, which pulls in your Site Title and Tagline)

But, if you want to use an Image logo instead of Dynamic Text, here’s how to get started:

  1. Go to the Genesis > Theme Settings menu
  2. Scroll down to the Header section
  3. Select Image logo from the dropdown

(Don’t forget to save your click the Save button!)

Changing this setting will automatically “include” a file called logo.png, included with the theme. You can either go to your theme folder /images/logo.png and change that file with your own logo, or follow these instructions.

Note: adding an image logo can be a bit tricky unless your logo is the same (or quite similar) dimension as logo.png, as included with the theme. Or unless you’re comfortable with customizing CSS.

Using the Header Right Widget Area

Now where were we? Oh yeah, we need to set up the Header Right widget area.

From your WordPress admin:

  1. Go to Appearance > Widgets menu
  2. Identify the Header Right widget area
  3. Drag the Search widget into the widget area

Note: You can use any widget in this widget area, but know that some widgets will look better than others. 🙂
